Our 2nd Grade

Classroom Rules:

1.      Always be your best and do your best.

2.      Be cooperative

3.      Respect others and their property

4.      Always remain on task

Mrs. Lickteig’s Morning Procedures:

  • Our morning routine will consist of reading the morning message on the board from me to the class. The morning message will always be an assignment for the students to work on before we start reading groups. Students will have jobs that they will be doing during this time as well, such as; attendance, lunch count, pencil sharpener, watering the plants, etc.
  • Once students have finished they will gather on the carpet in a circle and greet one another. We will work all year to maintain a strong sense of community that we will build on every day. We will then share any news that a student wished to share with the class, upcoming birthdays, new toys, vacations, etc.

Procedures and Routines in our 2nd Grade Classroom:

ENTERING THE CLASSROOM: Students will enter the classroom in a calm, quiet manner. Sharpen their pencils if necessary, put their homework in the correct trays and take a seat.

HOMEWORK SHEETS: These are an important tool. Be sure you bring them to class every day with you and also be sure they are signed by a parent or guardian.

ATTENTION SIGNAL: When I say “Hands on Top” the students will drop what they are doing, place their hands on their heads and say “That means Stop.” That means the entire class should be ready to go on to our next subject or activity and that I have their full attention.

ASKING QUESTIONS, LEAVING YOUR SEAT, AND GETTING HELP: Raise your hand and I will be right with you to answer your questions.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR: The students responsibilities in my class are to: always be your best and do your best, be cooperative, respect others and their things, and always remain on task. All team members are expected to be polite and respectful to one another and that includes the teacher. NO student will be allowed to disrupt the learning of his/her classmates.

MAKEUP WORK: When a student is absent they will be expected to make up any work that was missed. On their desk when they will return will be a folder with their missed work.

HOMEWORK: Homework, when assigned will be due at the beginning of class. When you arrive in the mornings it can be placed in the homework tray located at the front of the classroom.

END OF CLASS DISMISSAL: Two minutes before class ends, I will tell the students to start getting packed up. We will straighten the room and then I will give any last minute instructions and dismiss them.

RESTROOM PASSES: We will take restroom breaks together every hour and a half. If the students need to go during class time, there will be a hallway pass located by the door, please put it around your neck and quickly, quietly use the restroom. You are allowed 1 free pass per day and after that you will owe the teacher Colt Cash.

Consequences:

Students will be given three warnings for behavior problems in the classroom, per week. Once the student has met that amount of warnings then the consequences will be based on how severe the problem is.

The rule is broken once: The teacher conferences with the student. This will be done in a quiet area in the classroom or just outside the door as to not embarrass the child. The child should be prompted as to what they will do in the future.

The rule is broken twice: There should be at least one of the following in place: 5 minutes off of recess, notice to parents, student writes a note to parent, a behavior journal is started.

The rule is broken a third time: Student will be moved to the desk that is next to the teacher’s until the teacher feels like they are ready to return to their desk.

The rule is broken for a fourth time: Parent is informed of previous inappropriate behaviors and that should it continue a parent/teacher/student meeting will be planned.
