Here are some of the things we will cover in 1st grade:
Mathematics
Students will...add and subtract simple facts take timed tests with addition and subtraction facts tell time to the hour and half hour determine the total value of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
Reading
Students will...decode new words in reading materials read appropriate grade-level sight words identify elements of text, including the main idea, sequencing and describing characters.
Language Arts
Students will...demonstrate phonemic awareness correctly spell grade level words use their reading, writing and speaking skills in everything they do.
Science and Social Studies
Students will...understand parts of plants learn about animals and their habitats * understand weather changes related to the seasons understand forms of water, gas, liquids and solids learn about maps with our Flat Stanley project.
One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, or how much money I had. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.
