Here are some of the things we will cover in 2nd grade:
Mathematics
Students will...review math routines find equivalent names for numbers count patterns fine <, >, = relations count patterns addition and subtraction facts fact families doubles and turn around facts.
Reading
Students will...decode new words in reading materials read appropriate grade-level vocabulary words identify elements of text, including the main idea, details, character, and setting.
Language Arts
Students will...demonstrate phonemic awareness correctly spell grade level words use correct punctuation and capitalization in sentences understand that sentences contain subjects and predicates begin to learn about the writing process.
Science and Social Studies
Students will...understand what it means to be a citizen learn about goods and services understand forms of matter learn about plants and animals.
One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, or how much money I had. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.
