Daneen Hollern
Special Education Teacher

Hello! I am one of the special education teachers on staff that has the privilege of assisting students who may not gain academic success as easily as their peers. Our special education philosophy in the building is to help students be as much a part of their classroom as possible. Often times you will find me within a general education classroom, helping assist all students with the academic task at hand. Blending into the classroom as much as possible and NOT identifying students with special needs, while at the same time teaching them to become independent, is our goal.

Other students may require more intense interventions, which are provided within various small classrooms throughout our building. We have several paraprofessionals who help carry out lesson plans and lead small groups. If you step into our classroom, at times you may see four different groups being taught at the same time. Reading, math and written language skills for different grade levels can be observed. You will notice students being encouraged to try their very best while at the same time being taught strategies to overcome academic struggles they may be experiencing.

I wear many hats being a special education teacher. Being a teacher is my favorite!  Working with students who have learning difficulties and figuring out strategies to help them learn is what takes most of my time.  However, I also spend a lot of time working with parents, collaborating with teachers, doing paperwork, and helping  students within the general education classrooms learn as well.

The picture at the top of the page looks exactly like me!!!! I'm the balancing queen with all the jobs I do at school while also being a wife and a mom to three teenagers !!!  They all keep me hopping and my planner full of activites on a daily basis. My hobbies include flower gardening, photography, walking and my favorite........reading a great book!! I am also committed to being GREEN!! I recycle, hang out my laundry (even in the winter) and reuse things so many times, my teenagers go..........really??? Can't we just throw that away??
