Courses: College Algebra, Calculus, and ACT Prep
This year students will be given the opportunity to expand their knowledge and challenge themselves in mathematics. These challenges can be meet with hard work, patience and perseverance. I am always willing to help the students before and after school (7:30- 7:55 and 3:05 - 4:00) if they have questions that I am unable to get to during class.
Our Calculus course may be taken for dual credit through Johnson County Community College (JCCC) as long as the student meets all the criteria set forth by the college. The class is worth 5 credit hours. In calculus, we cover: limits, rules of derivatives, rules of integration, and their application in the real world. During the 3rd quarter we will be studying the purpose of derivatives and begin to see how calculus can help us find area underneath the curve. For more information about the dual credit on: http://www.jccc.edu/home/depts.php/1503

College Algebra is also offered for dual credit through JCCC. The class is worth 3 credit hours and students may enroll in the course as long as they meet JCCC criteria. Students are required to purchase the textbook for this course and the information about it can be found on the course syllabus. Throughout the course we will be covering: properties of functions, matrices, logarithms, series, and sequences. If a student is considering dropping the college class it must be done before March 1st. Please contact Mrs. DeCoster with any questions.

In my half of the ACT Prep course, I will be reviewing for the Science and Math section of the test. We will do practice problems and discuss strategies that students can use on the test. In the second quarter we will be continuing to review math concepts. See the Direction for ACT Review document about other free review option provided by Johnson County Library.
