Where did fall go? I can’t believe we are beginning a new year! My "Busy Bee's" have been working hard learning letter names and sounds. We have already learned nine new sight words, color and number words! In fact, we are even reading! Our language arts units have taken us on journey’s in which we learned about family and friends, different types of transportation, and food. Currently we are learning about pets. My students have learned so many new academic vocabulary words. We've also been writing in our journals and drawing beautiful pictures. The students will begin working on spelling their first and last names. We hope to have this mastered by March!
In math we are learning how to estimate. Every Monday students look at items in our estimation jar and write their estimation on a piece of paper. After we count the items, students complete an estimation form to share with their families. Students are also learning how to write numbers to 15! Over the next few weeks our math lessons will become more challenging.
During the month of January the students will begin our take-home-reading program. Students will earn a variety of rewards during this program. Please be sure to watch for information about this wonderful program.
As the weather begins to grow colder, please be sure to send appropriate clothing such as: hats, gloves, scarves and coats. It would be helpful if you could teach your child to zip and button their coats.

Our days will continue to buzz by as we continue to grow and learn together. All subjects will become more challenging as we work to prepare for first grade. Thank you for your continued support and stay tuned for more information about our kindergarten experience.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Burhenn
