Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts!
“You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own and you know what you know. YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go!”
This year we will be exploring a variety of genres in literature, including, short story, fiction, mythology, biography, poetry, and expository nonfiction. Throughout the year, several novels are read to which students write personal responses, participate in discussion, and engage in hands-on activities. As well as in-class reading, all seventh graders are required to complete outside reading requirements and book reports. Students will be graded based on daily assignments, class participation, quizzes, tests, and projects.
During our first nine weeks, we will focus heavily on short story elements, grammar practice, and figurative language. We will begin reading Maniac Magee as a class, early in the semester. I am always available before and after school, as well as during homeroom time to provide additional help to any students who may need it.
