Where am I?
Mr. Barnes' Bio
Dear Fifth Grade Students and Parents,
It is that time of year again, and I want to welcome you to the fifth grade! I hope you are as thrilled about this year as I am. I believe this is going to be an exciting and fun year, and I look forward to getting to know all of you. I would like to start by giving you some background information on myself.
I am from a small town in the southwest corner of Kansas called Elkhart. Part of the town is in Oklahoma, and it is only 8 miles from the Colorado state line. I am the eldest of two children. My parents still live in Elkhart, but my brother (23) lives in the Kansas City area with his soon to be wife.
In high school, I was an extremely active individual. I played football, baseball, basketball, golf, and track. I was also a member of the National Honor Society, Letterman’s Club, FFA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. After high school I attended Hutchinson Community College as a Presidential Leadership Scholar. I was also an ambassador at the college. My job was to show prospective high school students around the campus. From Hutch I ended up at Kansas State University where I received my Bachelor’s degree in December 2008. Even though I am a K-State graduate, I am, and always will be, a born and bred Oklahoma Sooners fan (BOOMER SOONER!).
I was just recently married on July 16 this summer to my new beautiful wife. We had a very busy summer with the wedding, but everything went great. We had an amazing honeymoon in St. Lucia in the Caribbean. We are now looking forward to our future together and the many home improvements we want to make.
I am truly excited about the opportunity Spring Hill has given me. During the fall I am an assistant coach for the Spring Hill High School football team. I am also an assistant girls softball coach in the spring at the high school (GO BRONCOS!!!).
Like I said earlier, I cannot wait to meet and get to know all of you. I think this will be a fabulous year, and I hope you feel the same. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by phone (913-592-7130) or email (barnesd@usd230.org). Let’s have a terrific year!
Sincerely,
Dustin Barnes
