Welcome to my class page! I am the primary teacher for government and psychology at SHHS.  I’ve been teaching both courses for five years and continue to learn a lot about each topic every year.  My main goal while teaching all of my classes is to help my students apply what they learn to real-life situations in and out of the classroom.  Here’s a brief description of what we do in my classroom.

Government :  Not only do we learn the structure and function of government, but we also explore social issues that impact my student’s lives on a daily basis.  This includes the examining the Bill of Rights, discussing current events, debating politics, and discussing how government plays a role in just about everything we do!

Psychology & Sociology: Both of these courses combine elements of the social and natural sciences.  We examine the self in psychology, which enable my students to examine their behavior and mental processes.  In sociology, we examine groups of people in society to see how they function as a whole.  We also look into different cultures to see how we behave differently around the world.

American History:  We explore American History from the 1900s to the 1980s and look into everything in between!  We have state indicators that we have to hit but also have time to explore interesting topics such as Rock N Roll music, the 1960s hippy movement, world wars, and American culture through many decades!

In my classroom, my students have the opportunity to explore their own interests, ideas, and beliefs in just about every class I teach.  I hope to challenge their ideas and provide them with unique opportunities to explore new territory in learning.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
